Case Study: Compact Solar & Battery Installation – Reading, Berkshire
Project Overview
On 2 May 2024, TEMS Solar completed a compact and cost-effective solar and battery installation at a residential property in Reading, Berkshire. The system was designed to make efficient use of available space while still delivering meaningful energy savings and increased energy independence.
System Design & Specifications
The installation features a 2.6kWp solar PV system, comprising 6 high-efficiency JINKO 445W panels. A Fox 3.7kW hybrid inverter manages the energy flow, seamlessly integrating solar generation with storage. The system is supported by a Fox high-voltage battery with 11.6kWh capacity, allowing the homeowner to store surplus energy generated during the day for use at night and charge during off-peak tariff periods to use throughout the day.
Installation Highlights
A key feature of this project is the use of a flat roof mounting system installed on the garage roof. This approach provided a highly practical and cost-effective solution, as the lack of need for scaffolding can lead to significant installation cost reductions.
The combination of a modest solar array with a relatively large battery ensures that a high proportion of generated energy can be stored and used efficiently, maximising overall system value.
Results & Benefits
The completed installation enables the homeowner to:
Reduce electricity bills through on-site solar generation
Lower reliance on grid-supplied energy
Make efficient use of available roof space
Benefit from stored energy during non-generating hours
Conclusion
This project demonstrates that even smaller solar installations can deliver strong results when paired with effective battery storage and smart design. TEMS Solar successfully provided a flexible, affordable solution that enhances sustainability while making the most of the property’s available space.
