Case Study: Solar and Storage Install in Didcot
A homeowner in Didcot worked with TEMS Solar to help transform their property to be more energy-independent. By making full use of available roof space and integrating advanced battery storage, this system was designed to deliver consistent performance and reduce reliance on the grid.
System Overview
Solar PV Capacity: 4.01 kWp
Panels Installed: 9 × Jinko 445W modules
Inverter: Fox 3.7 kW Hybrid Inverter
Battery Storage: Fox 11.6 kWh HV Battery
Roof Configuration: Panels distributed across three roof faces
The Installation
TEMS SOlar carried out a bespoke design and installation in order to take advantage of three separate roof faces to maximise solar generation throughout the day. By spreading panels across multiple orientations, the system captures sunlight from morning through to evening, smoothing out generation peaks and increasing overall energy yield.
The Fox hybrid inverter works seamlessly with the larger 11.6 kWh high-voltage battery, ensuring excess solar energy is efficiently stored rather than exported. This setup provides a strong foundation for consistent, round-the-clock energy availability.
Energy Independence in Action
This installation is a strong example of how thoughtful system design can significantly boost energy independence. With generation spread across the day and a high-capacity battery, the homeowner can rely on stored solar energy well into the evening and even overnight, depending on usage. The larger battery also allows the customer to make great use of cheaper overnight tariffs overnight to charge the battery for use during peak times.
The result is a dramatic reduction in grid reliance, improved protection against energy price volatility, and greater control over household energy usage—key pillars of true energy independence.
Local Area Relevance
Didcot is known for its strong connection to science and energy innovation, being home to major research facilities and a growing number of sustainability-focused developments. Its mix of modern and traditional housing provides excellent opportunities for solar adoption, particularly where creative panel layouts—like this multi-roof system—can unlock otherwise unused potential.
With good solar irradiance levels for the UK and a community increasingly focused on efficient energy use, Didcot is an ideal location for homeowners looking to invest in renewable energy and long-term self-sufficiency.
Outcome
By combining a flexible panel layout with substantial battery storage, this project demonstrates how homeowners can push beyond standard solar setups to achieve higher levels of energy independence. The system delivers reliable, self-generated power across more hours of the day—reducing costs, lowering carbon impact, and putting control firmly back in the hands of the homeowner.
