Case Study: Solar Upgrade & Battery Installation – Chelmsford, Essex
Project Overview
TEMS Solar completed a solar upgrade at a new-build property in Chelmsford, Essex. The project expanded an existing installation with only two solar panels by adding a further 15 panels, a hybrid inverter, and battery storage to significantly increase the property's renewable energy generation and energy independence.
System Design & Specifications
The upgraded installation provides a total solar PV capacity of 6.23kWp using 15 TRINA SOLAR 415W modules. The additional panels were fitted to the property's slate roof, creating a larger and more capable solar array while making effective use of the available roof space.
A SOLIS RHI-6K-48ES-5G hybrid inverter manages the upgraded system, integrating solar generation with battery storage. A PUREDRIVE 5kWh battery stores surplus solar energy generated during the day, allowing the homeowner to use more of their own renewable electricity during the evening or periods of lower generation.
Installation Highlights
A key feature of this project was upgrading an existing new-build solar installation rather than starting from scratch. With only two panels originally installed, TEMS Solar increased the generation capacity by adding 15 further panels along with a hybrid inverter and battery system. The panels were carefully fitted to the slate roof to provide a practical and integrated finish.
Results & Benefits
The installation provides the homeowner with:
Significantly increased solar generation capacity
Improved self-consumption through integrated battery storage
A substantial upgrade to the property's original solar provision
Efficient use of the existing slate roof
Reduced reliance on grid electricity and greater energy flexibility
Conclusion
This project demonstrates how an under-equipped new-build solar installation can be substantially enhanced through a carefully planned upgrade. TEMS Solar transformed a basic two-panel installation into a 6.23kWp solar and battery system, delivering greater renewable energy generation, improved self-consumption, and increased household energy independence.
